OVERVIEW

The Department of Media and Communication Studies started working in 2023 to produce skilled and knowledgeable experts. Presently, the department is offering four programs, namely a BS in Media and Communication Studies. Now, the department is going to offer two new BS programs in BS Media and Communication Studies with specializations in (Print and Electronic Media, Advertising and Public Relations, Social Media and Digital Communication), ADP in Media and Communication Studies, BS in Film, TV, and Theatre, ADP in Film, TV, and Theatre, and MPhil in Mass Communication (research track/professional track).

Our programs are designed while keeping in view the modern trends and practices in the field of communication in Pakistan as well as abroad. The undergraduate program is offered in the morning, whereas the M.Phil. program will be offered in the evening and on weekends. The department has highly qualified and hardworking faculty members who put in their maximum efforts to do their best to enlighten their students. Our programs qualify our graduates to work in the varied job market through inclusive coursework and rigorous research work. Along with interactive learning experiences, students also get a chance to meet leading media professionals from news, entertainment, and academia who are invited to deliver lectures in accordance with their fields.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

Our BS and M.Phil. programs at the Department of Media and Communication Studies reflect the evolving landscape of global communication industries, offering a comprehensive curriculum covering diverse aspects such as opinionated writing, political lobbying, advertising, cultural ethics, and contemporary media trends. Designed for undergraduate students, our 2/4-year degree integrates rigorous professional training in performing arts media communication with creative film, drama, aesthetics, design, animation, and visual storytelling in complex contexts.

  1. Learn how the latest trends in mass media and the latest technology have changed the meaning of communication for individuals.
  2. To critically analyze the contents of both print and electronic media.
  3. To deliver high-quality academic support to enhance the knowledge of journalism and media studies, emphasizing a comprehensive education in all facets of journalism.
  4. To foster collaboration among academia, industry, and government entities to enrich learning experiences.
  5. To prepare future journalists for ethical and societal challenges, emphasizing values is crucial in journalism.
  6. To equip graduates with market-oriented skills to contribute effectively to the industry.
  7. To improve students’ creative and managerial aptitudes, honing their communication skills in report writing and presentations.
  8. To promote creative storytelling and digital proficiency, including advanced editing techniques like VFX and CGI.
  9. To offer a comprehensive understanding of visual communication technologies, nurturing creativity and aesthetic sensibilities, and facilitating the creation of professional-level digital media productions.
  10. To provide all the facilities students need to complete their projects, such as video and audio documentaries, dramas, features, and thesis.

The Department of Media and Creative Arts program aims to produce skilled communication experts and proficient journalists, demonstrating the following outcomes:

  3. Possessing mastery in journalism and essential communication skills, including presentation, writing, and speaking.

  6. Students demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of events and affairs in Pakistan and its surroundings.
  7. They craft news content for various media channels, understand the principles of advertising and public relations, and adhere to ethical standards and legal regulations.
