Emerson University, Multan, established under Act VIII of 2021 by the Punjab Assembly, is one of the largest public sector institutions of the Southern Punjab. The University is located at the center of Multan city. The hundred year long and remarkable history of this institution, with an extensive list of distinguished and eminent graduates at highly notable places in almost all significant fields of life, dates back to its inception on April 13, 1920, when it was established as Govt. College Multan which was renamed, in 1933, as Govt. Emerson College, Multan as a tribute to then Governor of the Punjab Sir Herbert William Emerson. In 2021, Govt. Emerson College, Multan was reconstituted as Emerson University, Multan and granted the status of autonomous degree awarding university through Provincial Assembly of the Punjab Act VIII of 2021. Presently, it is catering the educational needs of more than seven thousand students with the projected enrollment of almost 20 thousand students in the near future. This newly established University has a vision to launch the market-oriented programs in various disciplines of humanities, natural sciences and social sciences ranging from ADP/BS to PhD programs. At present the University is offering Four-year BS programs in 18 disciplines of natural and social sciences, Two-year MA Programs in 13 disciplines, Two-year Bachelor of Commerce and Two-year Intermediate program.
Emerson University has started its proper functioning with the arrival of its first Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Naveed Ahmed Chaudhry, a renowned educationist of this region, who took the charge in March 2021. The University is on the way to constitute various legal bodies for the smooth functioning of institutional matters and various BS level programs being launched from the concurrent semester, i.e., fall 2021. The Vice Chancellor envisages a very broad vision of the University to take it at par with any national and international institution. For the realization of this vision, the University has set a clear and detailed roadmap for initiating BS, MPhil and PhD programs in natural sciences, social sciences, arts and humanities, along with a wide array of other short programs, courses and training modules. The University, having been cognizant of the significance of research programs in a standard university, has set its targets, in real spatiotemporal scenario, for launching research journals, organizing conferences and other related program in near future. The University has also set its goals for other academic and scholastic curricular and co-curricular activities.
