The Department of English at Emerson University, Multan, proudly upholds a century-long tradition of academic excellence. Since the institution’s establishment in 1920 and the founding of the Department of English in 1963, we have been committed to serving national and international communities in diverse and impactful ways. The introduction of MA English classes in 1996 further solidified our role in shaping generations of professionals who have excelled in sectors such as law, bureaucracy, parliament, education, and local administration.
Our department prides itself on delivering the highest education standards, driven by a team of highly qualified faculty members. Many of our educators hold PhDs and postdoctoral qualifications in Linguistics and Literature from prestigious institutions, both within Pakistan and abroad. Currently, the department boasts seven regular faculty members and over 40 visiting professors, all contributing to our mission of fostering academic excellence.
With the reconstitution of Emerson University Multan in 2021, the Department of English now offers a comprehensive range of degree programs, including BS English, ADP English, MPhil English Linguistics, MPhil English Literature, and PhD English Linguistics. These programs are available in various shifts, including Morning, Replica, and Evening, to cater to a diverse student body.
At the heart of our department’s vision is a commitment to advancing high-quality research that meets international standards of excellence, as defined by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan. In addition to imparting theoretical knowledge in language, linguistics, and literature, we nurture students’ intellectual growth, fostering a spirit of enlightened thinking, humanistic values, and global awareness. This approach is essential for promoting creativity, peace, and the holistic development of society.
Our department actively engages in international academic collaborations, further enhancing the quality of education and research. We have established a Corpus Center, where scholars and students work on multiple research projects. Looking to the future, the Department of English aims to launch additional programs that address the evolving needs of the contemporary world and contribute to its progressive development.
