DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS & STATISTICS

A SYMBOL OF EXCELLENCE, INNOVATION AND INTEGRITY

OVERVIEW

The department of Mathematics of the Emerson University esteems a hundred-year history of excellence. Since the establishment of the college in 1920, this Department has been serving the national and international community in various ways. Highly qualified academic faculty has been equipping the students with the skills needed in various departments. As a result, many alumni had worked and have been working in engineering and technology, atomic energy, computing sciences, modelling and simulation, biological sciences, CFD, aerodynamics, aeronautics, missile technology, economy, finance, banking, administrations, education, and other fields of life. We take pride that a substantial number of the staff is PhDs and M.Phlil in Mathematics. At present, the Department has 07 faculty members including 04 PhDs and 03 MPhil degree holders. The chairman credits the winner of best research paper award of HEC for the academic year 2015-16. Already, the Department has been offering BS and MSc Mathematics programmes since 2010. Reconstituted in 2021 as Emerson University Multan, the Department of Mathematics is now offering its own degree programs, initially launching BS Mathematics. Mathematics plays a critical role in our efforts to understand the nature of the physical universe and in the continuing development of our technological society. Within the last few years the frenetic pace of research and development in computers and high technology has led to strong new imperatives for more mathematical expertise, and the need to nurture a new generation of mathematically competent men and women has never been more crucial. Therefore, the hallmark of the Mathematics department is to promote quality of education and research competitively at the international level following, of course, all standards of excellence set by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) for all universities in Pakistan. In addition to providing theoretical, practical and applicable knowledge in the relevant fields of pure, applied and computational Mathematics as well as in financial, social, physical and biological sciences.

The departmThe department has long acknowledged how statistical theory and applications are related. This has been facilitated by the department’s support of collaboration with other divisions through joint participation in a vision, including Biomedical Data Science, Bio-X, Centre for Computational, Evolutionary and Human Genomics, Computer Science, Data Science, Economics, Education, Electrical Engineering, Earth System Science, Genetics, Mathematics, Mathematical and Computational Finance, and Medicine. The department’s research initiatives show a passion for both theoretical and practical statistics and probability. Workshops in biology, medicine, and environmental health are to be introduced.
The department offers a number of service courses created for students in other departments in addition to courses specifically for Statistics students. These frequently highlight the use of modeling and computer applications in statistics.
